Hi, my name is Tamara and I am a postgraduate psychology student. My passion lies in being a supportive, genuine listener because I know how difficult it must feel to not be heard or understood. Thank you for being here, and having the courage to reach out to someone.
My name is Kirsten and I’m from Potchefstroom in South Africa. I completed my BHSc Physiology & Psychology degree in 2020 and I’m currently completing my Honours degree in Psychology. I’ve always felt an overwhelming need to be there for those who need me. Growing up my childhood wasn’t ideal, and I never felt like I had a strong support system. A family is supposed to be there for you no matter what and I unfortunately never had that. It’s been a tough couple of years learning to deal with my depression and anxiety but I feel that I’m stronger because of everything I’ve experienced. I believe I am a kind, empathetic, understanding and non-judgmental person. I’m looking to volunteer my time because I want to make a difference and I understand that even a small change can have big consequences for someone’s life.
Hi! My name is Nqobile and I am currently doing my Honours degree in Psychology. I aspire to be a clinical psychologist. The field of psychology is one I have been interested in since primary school days. The opportunity to listen to others and offer them emotional support is something I’ve always felt aligns so strongly with the kind of person I am — compassionate, kindhearted and loving. Moreover, my twenties have been a rollercoaster, and sometimes it gets so challenging that all I’d want to hear is the assurance that there is light at the end of the tunnel. Being someone who keeps most of her life struggles to herself, I know just how painful it is and so I would in turn love to be a vessel of hope and support for those who are in need. In addition to this, listening to people vent and giving them strength through empathy and understanding is something that fills my heart with so much warmth and joy. I believe that volunteering, is the first step to reaching the wider community and ultimately touching and changing many lives
My name is Nosipho and I am 43 years old. I live in Durban. I live with my son. I am currently working as a Team Leader in a manufacturing company. I have a BA in Psychological Counselling and will be doing my Honours in Psychology. I am registered with the Council for Counsellors in South Africa (CCSA) as a Counsellor. I also have a Diploma in Adult Basic Education & Training and a Diploma in Production Management. The reason for volunteering is that I am passionate about helping people in need. I want to give my time to the right course and doing the right thing that I strongly believe will also help me fulfill my inner peace and my purpose in life. I am a loving, caring and warm person. I love being out and connect with nature. I have had my share of sadness. I had lost a loved one and it was a very difficult time for me, it was difficult to cope. I was depressed and I had to go for counselling and, yes, I survived. I have learned to live pass the pain. The counselling sessions really helped me through my life's difficult journey. I was able to pick up the pieces and continue with the journey. I believe that by speaking to someone that you can trust and/or a professional about the life's challenges that we are facing, it can help us find a new meaning (positive meaning) to life.
I am currently busy with my third year of my psychology degree. I study through UNISA so I work during the day. I am a receptionist in the mornings for a property lawyer agency and in the afternoons I au pair for 2 children aged 7 and 11. I haven't done a lot of volunteering and look forward to starting. In my free time I love to read and I have my nose in a book most days. I also enjoy going out with friends and being outdoors. I'm an artistic person and draw in my free time. I also have a parrot that is like my child and I love just spending time with him as he is very attached to me and sometimes doesn't even want to get off my shoulder. I believe that I have overcome some obstacles and still suffer from depression that is genetic and anxiety. Every day is different and some days are harder than others. I have learned to cope with the overwhelming emotions and have coping strategies that get me through the difficult times. I also know what my triggers are and try and avoid them. Because I know what depression and anxiety feels like I feel like I have a lot of empathy and sympathy for other people. A few people I know also suffer from depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder and borderline personality disorder. Among my friends group I am like their therapist always there to listen. I love working with people, especially children and want to become a clinical psychologist specializing in working with children and adolescents.
Hi there I am currently studying Psychology and have been through my own abuse, struggles and difficulties. I have a sense of how people think and crave to help them become their best versions of themselves, motivate them, encourage them and want them to live the life they deserve, a life they choose, a better one they currently have. I can offer support through active listening, creating goals, set goals, and overall help them to be who they were born to be, beautiful and free. I enjoy gardening as it's such a healing activity learning how to grow and make life instead of taking it. I have found my calling in life at a late age of 33 yrs but rather now than never. Everyone deserves to be happy and healthy.
Hi there, my name is Natasha and I am currently a psychology honors student in Johannesburg South Africa ( Mzansi is my home). I'm a very active listener and quite the introvert, I love providing a shoulder and being able to help others, I'm very empathetic and feel a lot of my other fellow human beans. I love old foreign movies, music of all genres and spend my time mostly reading , the outdoors are very important to me, as we sometimes forget we are a part of something much bigger than ourselves and being in nature reminds me this, it keeps me grounded. I've taken on the some practices of yoga, meditation and make use of essential oils and herbs in my daily life, I also believe in starting the day with some affirmations. I have gone through my own personal trauma and struggle with mental health, thus I'd like to be of help for those who need, because I know how deep and heavy some things can get, I'd like to be there to help other unload or just carry a bit lighter in life. sending much love and light to each and everyone.
Well, I am a 3rd year Psychology student, with a Diploma in Child Psychology. My passion however, is wildlife and nature conservation. With a little bit adrenaline thrown in for flair. My hobbies aren't really hobbies. They are deep seated in who I am and have become. Martial Arts, for one, have saved my life. I've been practicing various forms of martial arts since I was 6 years old. I've always been a target of bullying, being really short, and martial arts has given me confidence and some form of control over what I let affect me. At my lowest point. in 2017, I met some people who turned me onto Capoeira, and this changed my life. Pretty much saved my life. The philosophies surrounding the art, as well as the people who teach it. exude love and family. Which is exactly what i needed at the time. That, and the movements, the friendly competition, comradery, love, music, appreciation. it's all really motivating. From a young age my goal has been to save the world. As childish as that sounds, it has taken me on many journeys, and I've connected with people from all walks of life. I've learnt many things about myself, and about people. I would love to take everything i've learnt, and try to make a difference in someone's life, for the better. Just as the people at Capoeira have done for me. it's never easy dealing with things by ourselves. And for many, certain trauma lead us to believe that we are alone in our struggles. But that is far from the truth. We need the help of others, in whatever form works for the individual. As human beings, we are social intellectual beings. Emphasis on the 'social' aspect. This is why I am applying to be a volunteer. To spread love and support to those who need it.
I am a very kind person that loves to help people. I am a good listener and I often give good advice whenever it is needed. I really wanted to volunteer somewhere to help other people cause I know it feels to be sad/bullied and not have anybody around to help you and i choose to volunteer because I don't think people need to pay to receive help. All in all I'm just trying to make the world a better place.
I am a 22 year old who is aspiring to be Clinical Psychologist. I likes to travel, learn about new cultures and learn new languages. I currently speak 5 languages, fluently, and I am learning new languages at the moment (Afrikaans, Tshivenda and Korean). I recently did a research for my honours degree, about volunteering, which has gave me an insight on the importance of volunteering. This pandemic we are currently facing has also motivated me to become a volunteer, it has showed me that we as people really need each other, no man is an island. I would like to offer my help and services to those in need. This pandemic has affected me financially and emotionally, I have lost loved ones because of Corona Virus. Due to the emotional stress I would like to be busy and help other people who are struggling or need help.
